Influence of high temperature duration on physical, thermal and mechanical properties of a fine-grained marble

Thermal treatment may cause changes in microstructure of rock, which has a significant influence on ro behaviors. Heating time (i.e., duration) is an important aspect in the thermal treatment. The present stu experimentally investigates the influences of temperature magnitude and duration in the treatment on t physical, thermal-electric, and mechanical properties of a fine-grained marble. Laboratory tests are conducted specimens experiencing different temperatures (i.e., 20, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 degrees C) and durations (i.e., 0 1, 2, 3, 4 and 8 h) in the treatment. The effects of both high temperature and its duration on physical propertii thermal-electric characteristics, and mechanical behaviors are then comprehensively studied. In general, t thermal treatment weakens the performance of rock and enhances the ductility in the deformation. When t treatment temperature is high enough (i.e., 300 C in this study), the influence of high temperature duration the rock performance is less prominent when compared with that of temperature magnitude in the treatmei However, when a lower treatment temperature is associated, the influence of high temperature duration on t rock behaviors is non-negligible. The results in this study provide useful data in understanding how the heati time affects the physical, thermal-electric, and mechanical properties of rocks, which is essential in stability engineering structures associated with high temperature problems.
