The aim of this study was to investigate the potential application of spherical and plate-like nanoparticles for controlling the release of Irganox 1010, as a polymer additive, into a fatty food simulant. The migration level of Irganox 1010 from pure LDPE and different LDPE-nanocomposites into the fatty food simulant was measured by HPLC at specific storage time intervals at two different temperatures including 20 and 40 degrees C. DSC analysis illustrated that incorporation of nanoclay and nano silica into a polymers led to increased degree of crystallinity which affected the migration of Irganox 1010. HPLC analysis indicated that application of nanoparticles substantially decreased the migration level of Irganox 1010, especially when nanoclay and nano silica were used at the same time, indicating that they had synergistic effects. Moreover, it was revealed that storage temperature had dominant effect on the migration rate of Irganox 1010.
