A rice krispies sphere constructed by hundreds of MoO3 nanoparticles of similar to 100 nm with carbon dots of similar to 5 nm (MoO3/CDs) is created via a one-pot hydrothermal synthesis process using CDs as nucleation seeds. The MoO3/CDs shows a reversible capacity of 897.5 mAh g(-1) after 100 cycles at a current density of 0.1 A g(-1) as an anode material for lithium-ion battery. Moreover, a discharge capacity of 507 mAh g(-1) is achieved after 255 full cycles under a high current density of 0.5 A g(-1). The electrochemical performance of the MoO3/CDs is promising due to the MoO3 nanoparticles connected by ultrafine CDs with excellent conductivity. The unique structure effectively alleviate the volume change during the charging/discharging process and improve the ionic and electronic mobility to enhancing the reversible reaction of MoO3.
