Research on metamaterials has attracted more and more attention, along with the design of various new 3D metamaterials, in which orthogonal assembling is a typical way of constructing such structures. For this kind of 3D orthogonal assembling structure, determining the equivalent elastic parameters of these 3D materials is important for mechanical analysis. However, because of the complexity, researchers tend to use finite element simulations or experimental methods, with little use of theoretical derivation solutions. In the present paper, we establish a mechanical model for determining the equivalent elastic parameters of a 3D orthogonal assembling model. The equivalent formula of the 3D structure's elastic parameter can be obtained by using the known elastic parameters of the corresponding 2D structure. The applicability of the formula is verified through comparison with the results in the literature. Compared with existing methods for directly analyzing a specific 3D structure, this method is simpler and has great generality, which can provide assistance in the design and performance prediction of such structures.
