This paper derives an analytical expression for the propagation of partially coherent Schell-model beams generated by a quasi-homogenous sources partially blocked by an opaque obstacle. Then we study the quasi-homogeneous Gaussian Schell-model (GSM) beams with defect propagating in a focused system in detail. Our results show that there exists a self-reconstruction effect. In particular, the intensity distribution in the focal plane can perform perfect self-reconstruction. Furthermore, the radiation forces on dielectric particles induced by a GSM beam generated by a quasi-homogeneous source with defect are studied, and we find that the distribution of radiation forces is completely unaffected by the obstacle. Our results have potential application for trapping a particle where an obstacle partially obstructs the optical path. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
