In combination with the advantages of gemini surfactants and sugar-based surfactants, a novel group of glucose derived gemini surfactants was synthesized and their surface properties were investigated. Some products could reduce the surface tension to 24.8-34.2 mN/m at the concentration level of 10(-5) mol/L. Their aggregation behaviors were further studied by means of dynamic light scattering, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The results indicated that the investigated surfactants could self-assemble into vesides in a wide range of concentrations. Since vesicles are widely used as nanocarrier in cosmetic and pharmaceutical field, the gemini surfactant 1c-based vesicles encapsulating resveratrol (RSV) as model compound were studied, and the results revealed that the vesicles displayed high loading capacity for RSV.
