Biopolymer dextrin based graft copolymer (Dxt-g-pVAc) has been synthesized through ATRP and was applied as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 15% HCl medium. The electrochemical measurements have been exploited to compare anti-corrosion properties of dextrin and its copolymer. Inhibitors formed protective layers on metal surface through adsorption as per Langmuir model. The metal dissolution and inhibitor adsorption phenomena have been studied through the estimation of thermodynamic parameters. The changes in surface morphology have been followed by FE-SEM and AFM analyses. The synthesized graft copolymer showed excellent anti-corrosion efficiency (98.39%) compared to native dextrin (84.56%). (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
