A paired electrochemical synthesis of new phenylcarbonimidoyl dicyanide dyes was performed by the electrooxidation of fast violet B (FVB) and fast blue BB (FBB) in the presence of malononitrile. Our data show that the reaction of electrogenerated quinone-diimine derived from FVB and FBB with malononitrile yielded the phenylcarbonimidoyl dicyanide derivatives. In addition, dyed nylon fabrics showed good to excellent color fastness properties to rubbing and washing. This paper reports a green, facile, catalyst-free method for the synthesis of the title compounds.
