In this work, we have developed ytterbium tungstate (Yb2WO6) as an electrocatalyst through a simple co-precipitation method. The as-prepared catalyst was systematically investigated by various characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). The as-developed Yb2WO6 was successfully applied to the electrochemical sensor (electrocatalyst) for sensitive and selective detection of antipsychotic drug chlorpromazine (CPZ). Interestingly, the Yb2WO6 modified screen printed carbon electrode (Yb2WO6/SPCE) shows an excellent electrocatalytic activity towards CPZ with extented wide linear response range and lower detection limit of 0.01-2520 mu M and 0.001 mu M, respectively. Moreover, the as-developed Yb2WO6/SPCE delivered an excellent selectivity even in the existence of cation, anion and some biologically co-interfering compounds. Furthermore, the Yb2WO6/SPCE displays an appreciable stability, and repeatability towards CPZ sensing. In addition, the Yb2WO6/SPCE was successfully applied to real sample analysis in CPZ tablet and urine samples with acceptable recoveries. (C) 2018 Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers.
