This study evaluated the influence of different manure sources and phosphorus levels on rice productivity. The results showed that organic manure and poultry manure application significantly increased rice yield.
The influence of three different manure sources (goat, sheep, and poultry manures) and phosphorus (P) levels (0, 40, 80, and 120 kg P ha(-1)) were evaluated with one control plot (no animal manure and P applied) under field condition. The results showed that in both trials higher rice productivity was observed with each increment in P levels (90> 60> 30> 0kg P ha(-1)) in both trials (animal manure vs. plant residues). Poultry manure application augmented rice productivity over sheep and goat manures (poultry> sheep> goat manures). Plant residues, onion residues or garlic residues application gave higher rice productivity over wheat straw (onion residues = garlic residues> wheat straw). The higher productivity was accompanied with enhanced plant growth and yield contributing characters. On average, rice grown with organic manures produced 20% greater grain yield over rice grown with crop residues.
