The influence of rotation speed on the scale film and pitting mechanism of HP-13Cr SS in high temperature ( > 180 degrees C), high salinity (Cl- concentration > 60,000 mg/L) and high CO2 pressure ( > 4 MPa) oilfield environment was investigated using surface analysis and electrochemical techniques. The results delineated rotation speed decreased the mechanical properties and volume fraction of the amorphous Cr(OH)(3)(s) of the scale film. As a result, rotation speed increased the both nucleation susceptibility and growth probability of pitting, the serious pitting corrosion occurred and the geometry changed to shallow-disk shape.
