A series of terrylene diimides (TDIs), the higher homologues of perylene diimides (PDI), were designed, synthesized and characterized in this work. In comparison to the bare TDI molecule, the bay-functionalized dyes, ph-TDI and th-TDI, possess enhanced ambipolar properties as well as organic solar cell performance.
