A novel approach was developed to achieve three-dimensional macroporous NiO/Ni powders. The unique architecture, together with the highly distributed Ni additive ensures the remarkably enhanced discharge capacity, initial coulombic efficiency, cycling stability, and rate capability when utilized as anodes in lithium-ion batteries.
