Here we report a new type of photo-stimulable storage material exhibiting a super-long (> 20 h) yellow persistent luminescence with the assistance of 980 nm stimulation. The thermoluminescence glow curves indicate that the incorporation of Lu3+ into Sr3SiO5:Eu2+ generates a large number of traps with different depths. Analysis illustrated that the photo-stimulation process contributed to electron trap redistribution, especially the refilling of the shallow traps, which results in a strongly prolonging LPL time for the ultraviolet pre-irradiated Sr3SiO5:Eu2+, Lu3+. This finding also elucidates that the retrapping process of the electron released from the deep trap plays an important role in the LPL process. (C) 2013 The Electrochemical Society.
