Nano-LiTiS2 is synthesized by mechanochemically milling a stoichiometric mixture of TiS2 and Li3N at ambient temperature and pressure. When nano-LiTiS2 is incorporated into an all-solid-state Li-ion battery configuration, it exhibits a stable discharge capacity of 220 mAh g(-1) after 60 cycles. Mechanochemical lithiation enables the utilization of otherwise lithium free cathode intercalation materials that would be incompatible in a Li-ion configuration.
