A convenient synthesis of coumarins using reusable ionic liquid as catalyst

An efficient and convenient method has been developed for the synthesis of substituted coumarin derivatives using a Bronsted acidic ionic liquid as catalyst under solvent-free conditions. The catalyst can be reused for six consecutive runs without significant loss of activity. [GRAPHICS] .
