A metal-organic coordination polymer formulated as (H3O)(2)[Zn(BTEC)] (1), where BTEC = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylate, was synthesized by solvothermal reaction and characterized by elemental analyses, thermal stability analysis, fluorescence and IR spectroscopy, as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compound 1 is a three-dimensional network containing one-dimensional rhombic channels, the sizes of the windows are approximately 8 angstrom at the widest and 4.5 angstrom at the narrowest spacing (excluding the van der Waals radius of atoms in the framework) running along the c axis. The study of the physical properties of 1 demonstrates that it exhibits intense blue fluorescence emission in solid state at room temperature.
