A new class of beta-amino alcohol and diamine ligands was prepared from isosorbide as a chiral renewable resource. The original wedge-shaped structure of isosorbide offers an interesting chiral pocket to promote the metal-catalyzed enantioselective reduction of ketones by transfer hydrogenation.
