The laccase-catalyzed oxidative coupling of sesamol, a naturally occurring phenolic antioxidant, with O-2 as the oxidant proceeds with high selectivity and delivers a previously unknown trimer in 61% yield. Further experiments demonstrate that the outcome of the sesamol oxidation strongly depends on the catalyst and the oxidant employed. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
