Two efficacious synthetic methodologies for the construction of medium-sized nitrogen heterocycles dibenzoazocinones have been developed. The phosphine-assisted protocol afforded better yields of the dibenzoazocinones (73-82%). (c) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
