We present a method for fabricating close-packed two-dimensional colloidal crystals on a solid substrate via capillary forces mediated by the presence of a nearby oil-water interface. We demonstrate that the resulting crystals are soft and anneal defects rapidly, making this a facile and possibly scalable method of directed colloidal assembly.
