The usage of potassium phthalimide (PPI) for the simple and green one-step multicomponent synthesis of Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines, polyhydroquinolines, 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones/thiones, and octahydroquinazolinones under solventless conditions at 120 A degrees C is reported. The method is operationally simple, environmentally benign, and has relatively high yields. The other merits of this method include efficient, clean, green, and catalyst reusability.
