A Pd-K bimetallic catalyst supported Y zeolite (HY) for acetylene hydrochlorination was prepared using ultrasound-assisted impregnation. The catalyst was tested in a fixed-bed reactor and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive spectrometer, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and NH3 temperature programmed desorption. The results indicate that the catalyst exhibits a good catalytic performance for the acetylene hydrochlorination reaction and its lifetime is longer than that of the non-K catalyst mainly because of the uniform dispersion of the active component Pd on the HY surface and the decrease of carbon deposition during in the reaction. Moreover, decreases of active component content on the catalyst surface also are reasons for the deactivation of catalysts. The presence of K promoter has a good effect on the acidity on the surface of the Pd catalyst and effectively improves the catalytic properties of Pd-based catalyst.
