Synthesis and biological evaluation of 2-substituted benzimidazole derivatives

A novel series of 2-substituted benzimidazole derivatives (3a-3j) were synthesized by the reaction of 2-chloro methyl benzimidazole with substituted primary aromatic amines. All the compounds were characterized by UV, IR, H-1 NMR, mass spectral data and CHN elemental analysis. The synthesized derivatives were screened for analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. All the compounds showed significant effect at 100 mg/kg p.o. and the experimental data are statistically significant at p < 0.01 level.
