A series of new nido-carborane based carboxylic acids 10-HOOC(CH2)(n)(Me)S-7,8-C2B9H11 (n = 1-4) was prepared by alkylation of tetrabutylammonium salt of 10-methylthio-7,8-dicarba-nido-caborane with omega-halogenoalkyl esters or nitrites followed by acid hydrolysis. Likewise nido-carborane based amines 10-H2N(CH2)(n)(Me)S-7,8-C2B9H11 (n = 2, 3) were obtained using omega-bromoalkylphthalimides as alkylating agents followed by removal of the protecting group with hydrazine. Structure of 10-C6H4(CO)(2)NCH2CH2(Me)S-7,8-C2B9H11 was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
