Confirmation that the Er3 gene, conferring resistance to Erysiphe pisi in pea, is a different gene from er1 and er2 genes

P>Only two genes conferring resistance to powdery mildew, er1 and er2, were known in Pisum sativum, till the recent postulation of a new dominant gene in Pisum fulvum, Er3. However, additional studies were needed to discern whether Er3 was a novel gene or just a new allele at either er1 or er2. In this study, we demonstrate that Er3 segregates independently from er1 and er2 genes, being therefore a different gene. We also prove that Er3 is present in several P. fulvum accessions.
