A new rhodamine-based derivative bearing a pyrene group (PRC) was synthesized as a ratiometric and off-on chemosensor for Cu2+center dot PRC displayed a selective and chelation enhanced ratiometric fluorescence change and colorimetric change with Cu2+ among the metal ions examined.
