A novel method of using terahertz response peak redshift of split ring resonators to identify the different type of transgenic products with similar spectral characteristics is proposed in this paper. Terahertz responses of split ring resonators with transgenic and non-transgenic thin liquid layers (thinness is 50 nm) introduced in the interspaces between the metal structures have been investigated using the time-domain spectroscopy technique of terahertz. When the liquid membrane is added to the split ring resonators void, the dielectric constant around split ring resonators is changed, the split ring resonators terahertz response peak is moved, and the redshift phenomenon is produced. The experimental results show that the transgenic and non-transgenic products with similar character can be distinguished clearly by compares split ring resonators terahertz response peaks. The results suggest that the proposed method may be employed to sense applications.
