Two dendrimer-substituted pillar[5]arenes were synthesized, and their self-assembly to dimeric and trimeric dendrimers based on pillar[5]arene's neutral molecular recognition was investigated. Particularly, the supramolecular dendrimers can be effectively disrupted by adding a competitive adiponitrile guest. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
