Synthesis of NiO Nanoparticles via a Solid State Thermal Decomposition of Nickel(II) Schiff Base Complex Ni(caph) (N3)(NO3) as a New Precursor

The Ni(II) Schiff base complex Ni(caph)(N-3)(NO3), where caph = 2-amino-N-(3-phenylprop-2-enylidene)aniline, was synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses (CHN) and FT-IR spectroscopy. NiO nanoparticles were obtained by solid state thermal decomposition of Ni(caph)(N-3)(NO3) at 450oC. Their crystalline structures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), the morphology was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and the composition of the products was confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy.
