A new algorithm for the analysis of list mode data from positron emission particle tracking experiments is described. The method is based upon the premise that the location of the tracer is within a region of space through which the majority of lines of response pass. The algorithm scans through the data set only once and makes use of the entire set of lines of response, thus efficiently achieving the maximum possible spatial resolution. The application of the approach to the tracking of both single and multiple tracers is explored. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
