The Beauty of a Visualized Peroxo-diiron(III) Intermediate

Deoxyhypusine synthase (DHS) and deoxyhypusine hydroxylase (DOHH) are essential for hypusination of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A (eIF-5A). In this issue, Han et al. use X-ray crystallograpy and UV/Vis and Mossbauer spectroscopy to provide insights into the fundamental mechanism of the hypusination of eIF-5A and a peroxo intermediate state.
