Single crystal gamma-Fe2O3 nanowires with 40-60 nm diameters were grown for the first time by single-step atmospheric flame vapor deposition (FVD) with axial growth rates up to 5 mu m/minute. Because of their superior crystallinity, these FVD gamma-Fe2O3 nanowires are single magnetic domains with room temperature coercivities of 200 Oe and saturation magnetizations of 68 emu/g.
