This study shows the possibility of anchoring antibody fragments on to carrier surfaces with biocompatible coatings. Cleavage of whole antibody molecules into two fragments is performed with immobilized dihydrolipoamide. The proof of successful coating and immobilization of antibody fragments is shown by use of fluorescence microscopy. The biocompatibility of a poly(ethylene glycol) coating, on 316L stainless steel as carrier, was shown in cell culture with Caco-2 cells. Immobilization of antibody fragments can serve another purpose-as a suitable specific binding site for nano or microparticulate drug-delivery systems.
