A printed Luneburg lens whose permittivity distribution is controlled by photo lithographically etching holes of different Sizes into one side of a PCB ground plane is reported. The lens designed to operate in TE01, mode has a measured -3-dB beamwidth of 5.2 degrees with 14.2-dB gain at 27.22 GHz for a 12.2 lambda, 13.4-cm diameter lens. Its low profile, 3.175-mm thickness, 85 g, +/- 20 degrees scanning range, and 15% bandwidth makes it useful for land mobile telemetry, and vehicular applications in the millimeter waveband.
