(W1-x,Ti-x)C-10Co cermets consist of two phases. hcp (W,Ti)C and fcc (Ti,W)C. The hcp (W,Ti)C exhibits thin platelet morphology. The (101) prism plane was developed preferentially in (W,Ti)C powder and the platelet grew via dissolution/precipitation during sintering. The morphology is found effective in enhancing the toughness of the system. (C) 2010 Published by Elsevier B.V.
