A melt of Al-5Ti-0.25C grain refiner alloy was solidified with ultrasonic treatment to change the morphology of TiAl3 and the microstructure of TiC phases. A novel high density ultrasonic treatment device was fabricated. Meanwhile, ultrasonic treatment was applied to the refining process of Al-5Ti-0.25C grain refiner on A1075, and the effect of ultrasonic treatment on Al-5Ti-0.25C alloy and refining characteristics were studied. It is shown that TiC particles were dispersed in the grain refiner alloy and TiAl3 phase was refined dispersedly with ultrasonic treatment. The nucleation activity of TiC particles was increased and the refining effect of Al-5Ti-0.25C grain refiner on A1075 was raised, at the same time the refining reaction time of grain refiner was shorten obviously due to the application of ultrasonic treatment.
