Ti3SiC2 powders were successfully obtained by the molten salt method using NaCl as the flux. The influences of synthetic temperatures and flux/powders weight ratio. on the phase and morphology of Ti3SiC2 powders were investigated. The results indicated that the synthetic temperature of Ti3SiC2 was about 150 degrees C lower than that reported by other methods. The Ti3SiC2 powders obtained by the molten salt method at 1200 degrees C were uniform and the particle size was about 1-2 mu m. The content of Ti3SiC2 increased as flux/powders ratio increased to 1:1 while the further increment of the ratio made the content decreases obviously. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
