A novel method which using Fe2O3 as pore-forming agent for preparation of directional SiC porous ceramics is developed. The results show that the microstructure of directional SiC porous ceramics was typically composed of approximately strip-shape pores in the axial direction in the axial direction and aligned pore in the radial direction. The XRD result reveals the obtained directional SiC porous ceramics were pure silicon carbide ceramics, without any other phasis existed. The contents of pore-forming agent influence the properties of the final directional SiC porous ceramics. (c) 2012 Published by Elsevier B.V.
