SnS2 nanoplates were synthesized via the liquid-solid phase reactions of tin (Sn), sulfur (S) and ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) powders in air at 250 degrees C, combined with a subsequent washing treatment using distilled water. The phase, purity, morphology and size of the obtained products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman, energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectra, and field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). The effects of additive NH4Cl on the phases of the resultant products were investigated, and the experimental results revealed that the additive NH4Cl played important roles in the synthesis of pure SnS2 under the current mild conditions.
