We experimentally studied the transient properties of polariton relaxation dynamics through the oscillatory behavior of an exciton-polariton condensate. The oscillations show characteristic pump power dependence consistent with the interpretation of the presence of relaxation oscillations. From the multiple reservoir model of polariton condensate formation, we show that an effective reservoir decay time can be found, greatly simplifying an experimentally valid numerical model of the polariton system. This decay time for polariton lasers is found to differ strongly from that of conventional devices including vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers.
