This study presents the potential of quantum dots as two-photon sensitizers for attached energy acceptors. With two-photon absorption cross sections, which are orders of magnitudes higher than those of any molecule, quantum dots constitute outstanding NIR sensitizers. The successful energy transfer to conjugated phthalocyanines was demonstrated using two-photon excitation of the quantum dots with a 1100 nm wavelength and was monitored with femtosecond time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy.
