Basic theoretical aspects, available simulation methods, and typical numerical difficulties of the eigenvalue analysis of lossy dispersive waveguides are presented. Our highly accurate approach based on the Multiple Multipole Program (MMP) together with special eigenvalue search and tracing routines are described in detail. The efficiency of the method is illustrated with several numerical examples.
