We established the 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay to assess damage induced by Staphylococcus aureus in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). The MIT assay was comparable to the previously published (51)chromium release assay. MTT reduction by intracellular S. aureus was negligible and therefore permits assessment of S. aureus induced EC damage. (c) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
