Alternative procedures for analysis of lipid A modification with phosphoethanolamine or aminoarabinose

MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry analysis of lipid A prepared using a Tri-reagent-based procedure with a 5-chloro-2-mercaotobenzothiazole matrix was preferable for the detection of phosphoethanolamine modification. In contrast, the analysis of lipid A prepared using an LPS extraction kit-based procedure with 2, 5-dihdroxybenzoic acid was preferable for the detection of aminoarabinose modification.
