The effect of melt temperature on the structure and mechanical properties of three Zr-based bulk metallic glasses (BMGs)-Zr(62)Cu(17)Ni(13)Al(8), Zr(55)Cu(20)Ni(10)Al(10)Ti(5), and Zr(52.5)Cu(17.9)Ni(14.6)Al(10)Ti(5) (Vit 105)-has been studied. The results show that the BMGs cast from higher melt temperature exhibit large plastic strains despite their amorphous I structure. The samples become macroscopically brittle when the quenched-in crystals form an interconnected microstructure. In contrast to previous Studies, there is no notable effect oil the Poisson's ratio (v) and other elastic constants.
