Preparation of half-cell by bi-layer wet powder spraying and tape casting for anode-supported SOFCs

In the present work, we report an integrated technique of bi-layer wet powder spraying (WPS) and tape casting to fabricate large area half-cell, which is critical for anode-supported solid oxide fuel cells. The electrolyte and anode functional layer were prepared by bi-layer WPS and the anode supporting layer was prepared by tape casting. Only one co-sintering step was needed to prepare the three-layer half-cell. A gas-tight YSZ membrane was achieved after the half-cell was co-sintered at 1250 degrees C. The single cell based on the half-cell co-sintered at 1350 degrees C showed the maximum power density of 0.46 W cm (2) at 750 degrees C. This result illustrates that the integrated method of bi-layer WPS and tape casting for half-cell fabrication has a high potential for scaling up from laboratory to industrial size.
