Sr3CuNb2O9 ceramics were prepared via the solid-state reaction route. The dielectric properties of the sample were investigated as a function of temperature (300-1100 K) in the frequency range from 20 Hz to 10 MHz. Three thermally activated dielectric relaxations were observed with the activation energy of 0.44 eV, 0.62 eV, and 1.07 eV for the low-, middle-, and high-temperature relaxation, respectively. Our results revealed that all the relaxations are related to oxygen vacancy. It was determined that the low-temperature relaxation is a Maxwell-Wagner relaxation due to the surface layer effect. The middle- temperature relaxation was found to be related to the ordering process of the oxygen vacancies. The high-temperature relaxation was associated with the conductivity originated from the hopping motions of oxygen vacancies. Crown Copyright (C) 2012 Published by Elsevier B. V. All rights reserved.
