Different morphologies of nanostructured tin sulfide (SnS) including nanoparticles, nanosheets and nanoflowers have been prepared via a simple hydrothermal reaction between SnCl2 center dot 2H(2)O and thioglycolic acid (TGA) at relatively low temperature. Products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra. The effect of reactant concentration, mole ratio of TGA to the Sn2+, temperature and reaction time on the morphology, particle sizes and phase of nanocrystalline SnS products has been investigated.
