Berberine chloride (BC) was loaded in the core/shell structured poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)/poly(L-lactide-co-epsilon-caprolactone) (PVP/PLCL) by coaxial electrospinning. After hot-press at 60 degrees C, the mechanical properties of the electrospun PVP/PLCL membrane increased significantly. A burst release of BC from the electrospun PVP/PLCL fibres incubated in PBS at 37 degrees C was found in I h and the cumulative released percentage of BC could exceed 90% at 72 h, significantly higher than that of BC encapsulated in PLCL. The drug-loaded electrospun PVP/PLCL membranes could potentially enhance wound healing in skin repair.
